Business On Board Impact:
Nancy M. Stuski, Vice President of Advertising, The New York Sun
Effective board members are often described as dedicated, visionary and committed. Nancy Stuski, a 1998 graduate of the Business On Board program, was placed with the Philadelphia Young Playwrights to serve on the board and quickly demonstrated all of those qualities.
When Nancy joined the board, the organization had approached a pivotal juncture. While the staff and board of Young Playwrights were mourning the loss of Founding Executive Director, Adele Magner, the board was also evaluating its needs for leadership, how to restructure board committees, and ways to enhance board members’ roles in governance and resource development.
Emerging as a true leader during this period, Nancy stepped forward and became chair of the critical Fundraising Committee. Under Nancy’s insightful guidance, the committee established fresh goals and defined annual strategies to increase board member contributions and identify additional resources.
With Nancy as a role model for other board members, the board’s personal giving significantly increased and the number of individual donors grew, crucial elements for the long-term health of the organization. Continuing to lead the board as an entrepreneurial thinker and maximizing her personal capacities and professional resources as publisher of Philadelphia Weekly, Nancy became the next board president in September 2004.
Her level of service, strong professional background, passion for the organization’s mission, and leadership by example have made her a model board member.
