For Business Professionals

Business professionals who participate expand their skills and networks while lending much-needed and valued support to our cultural community. The ideal volunteer has business expertise in at least one specific area and possesses creativity, initiative and flexibility. Don’t see your skills here but know they would make a difference? Drop us a note. We’ve mastered the art of the match, and we know how to help you and your company do good business in the region. Successful candidates have a strong interest in the arts and community engagement. Candidates should be willing to commit 5 to 10 hours a month on a consulting project; pro bono projects typically take 3 to 12 months to complete.

There is a one-time participation fee of $250 per participant. Many companies subsidize this fee, recognizing that having employees involved as volunteers offers both professional development opportunities and a way to enhance the company’s presence in the community.

Once accepted into the program, you will participate in half day BVA orientation session to learn about issues facing nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and to prepare you to be an effective consultant in an arts setting.

After you’ve completed the training session, we’ll place you with an arts organization with a clearly defined project that aligns with your area of expertise. We’ll stay in touch with you throughout the project, offering counsel and resources to help you succeed.

For Arts + Culture Organizations

New skills and strategies can keep your organization on the cutting edge. Join the more than 260 arts, culture and heritage organizations working with ABC to engage untapped networks of support for your staff, board and community. If you’re an arts manager who could benefit from a fresh perspective or additional expertise, and you’re willing to invest time and energy to lead your organization through a project, with the help of an experienced business professional, then BVA is for you. Arts and cultural organizations pay an administrative fee to the Arts and Business Council when a BVA volunteer is placed. The fee is:

  • $200 for organizations with operating budgets under $250K
  • $300 for organizations with operating budgets $250K to $500K
  • $500 for organizations with operating budgets $500K to $1M
  • $750 for organizations with operating budgets $1M to $5M
  • $1,250 for organizations with operating budgets over $5M

In 2016, Business Volunteers for the Arts worked on over 70 projects and provided approximately 3,500 hours of service with the generous and invaluable help of volunteers like you. Together, we generated over $550,000 in volunteer business consulting services to our region’s creative community.
