Knight Foundation, ABC is pleased to offer a range of 2017 scholarship opportunities to advance leadership in our region’s creative sector—at both the board and staff levels. The Knight Foundation grant is specifically focused on the advancement of diversity and inclusion among our region’s creative leaders. See general information about Business On Board and Designing Leadership, including applicant eligibility.

Business On Board—January 27, March 3, April 7, and May 5

Governance and Leadership Development for Prospective New and Current Board Members

  • Knight Foundation support provides 4 full scholarships (each valued at $3,000) to business/legal professionals from minority populations interested in joining the boards of local nonprofit arts and culture organizations. Each scholarship includes four full days of training and a carefully curated board match, plus support through the board placement process. Scholarship recipients must commit to attending all four sessions and to joining an arts board upon completion of the program.   • Continued support from CHG Charitable Trust, the Connelly Foundation and PNC Arts Alive provides 15 full scholarships (each valued at $1,500) to current board members of arts and culture organizations in the Greater Philadelphia region. Ideal candidates are board members already serving as officers or those being groomed for board leadership positions; or board members eager to learn about good governance practices and share what they learn with board peers. This program is aimed at business/legal professionals. Scholarship recipients must commit to attending all four sessions. To apply: Send a letter of nomination for your board member from the board chair or the senior staff leader to [email protected]. Include a current resume/bio for the nominee, explain why your organization would benefit from a scholarship and confirm that your nominee is available for all of the classroom sessions. Nominees do not need to complete the program application at this stage. Applicants will be interviewed by phone and scholarships will be awarded on a rolling basis.

Designing Leadership—February 22, March 8, March 22, April 5 and April 19

Leadership Development for Nonprofit and For-Profit Creatives

  • Knight Foundation support provides 13 full scholarships (each valued at $1,000) to nonprofit or for-profit creative leaders from minority populations. Eligible minority staff members from nonprofit arts organizations or from creative businesses with 5 to 25 employees are encouraged to apply. Scholarship recipients must commit to attending all five sessions (some full days, some half-days). To apply: Send a letter of nomination from a supervisor, or nominate yourself if you are the senior staff member; state your eligibility for a minority scholarship, and include a resume. Send the letter/resume to [email protected].   • PNC Arts Alive provides 4 full scholarships (each valued at $1,000) to eligible staff members from 2016 PNC grantee organizations. Scholarship recipients must commit to attending all five sessions (some full days, some half-days). To apply: Send a resume and letter of nomination from a supervisor, or nominate yourself if you are the senior staff member. Nominations should be sent to [email protected].   • The Dina Wind Fellowship provides 2 full scholarships (each valued at $1,000) based on financial need to eligible staff members from nonprofit arts groups who would otherwise not be able to participate. Scholarship recipients must commit to attending all five sessions (some full days, some half-days).
