The Creative Economy Award for Distinction in a For-Profit Creative Field recognizes a successful business with strong ties to Philadelphia’s creative sector and a unique positioning at the intersection between arts and business. In 2016, The Arts + Business Council honored History Making Productions with this prestigious award.
History Making Productions (HMP) has produced outstanding documentary films, webisodes, short cuts, and educational resources to explore and excavate Philadelphia’s rich history. Examples of their work include Urban Trinity: The Story of Catholic Philadelphia; The Daring Women of Philadelphia; and the 13-part series Philadelphia: The Great Experiment.
HMP’s dedication to the City of Philadelphia goes beyond documenting the city’s rich history. Their films and educational resources are generously made available to the city’s audiences, teachers, and students at no cost. The work of HMP has generated significant civic value as a result: schools are benefiting from curriculum materials, community, socials and religious groups use the films to create excellent programming for their stakeholders, and Philadelphians throughout the region are acquiring a greater understanding of our vibrant and historic city. Additionally, HMP’s productions employ dozens of talented filmmakers from the area, including many Temple University and Drexel University film school graduates. The economic impact of these productions is rightfully recognized by the State, which has provided financial support to HMP through its film tax credit initiative.
