Creative Economy Award for Distinction in the For-Profit Creative Field 2018 Winner Printfresh
Founded by Amy and Leo Voloshin in 2006, Printfresh Studio is a new but innovative and socially responsible leader in our region’s creative economy. The company recently completed the large-scale renovation of the beautiful Lomax building, an old carpet factory in Kensington, launching Jasper Studios as the company’s headquarters and a creative workspace for 50 other tenants in Philadelphia’s most economically and socially depressed neighborhood. Printfresh made the decision to move its family of businesses and become the anchor tenant out of a sense of duty to provide jobs and create opportunity for artists, designers, and the community, and assist the neighborhood through street cleaning and heightened security to create a safer space in Kensington.
Where once manufacturing flourished, Printfresh is bringing making back! Having launched its stationery line last year after wanting to create a product that was direct to consumer, the company’s founders are revolutionizing the industry by using textiles like velvet and others—the Voloshins have been designing textiles for the global fashion industry for the last 11 years—where most only only paper. After making a huge splash at the National Stationery Show, selling to over 30 stores in a matter of days, Printfresh has now reached 170 stores for its stationery line, working with major retailers such as Uncommon Goods, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdales. With this success the company is now able to create more jobs and has been hiring to support new growth. Finally, in terms of community involvement Printfresh is invested in meaningful community partnerships. From partnering with Philly Paper Jam to ensure the Adaire Alexander School has paper for a full school year to recently donating 10% of monthly online sales to Philadelphia Children’s Foundation and Art Sphere Inc., Printfresh believes an innovative creative economy must be conscious of how to leverage resources and talents beyond studio walls.
